Another depth of field test…

I imported the depth of field test into Blender 2.8 and messed with some effects and lighting…  The depth of field is now animated to simulate auto-focus trying to work, volumetric fog has been added to the scene, and some camera shake t o simulate a hand held camera (a noise modifier added to some rotation curves).  I also rendered using a “speed modifier” to the frames to turn the 600 animated frames into a 750 frame .mp4. 

Frame render time in 720p was about 20 minutes.

I’ve been messing around in Blender 2.8 (still in alpha release, beta is expected in a couple of weeks) and build this little scene to try out the render speed.  The 1000 frames needed for this animation rendered out about 30 minutes – only a few seconds per frame!  This will be a game changer…

There are lots of little things to figure out but what a start!

Render gone bad…

To speed things up, I usually render with two instances of Blender – one using the GPU and one using the CPU.  However, sometimes something doesn’t work right – in this case, the CPU render was handling the texture a bit differently – check out the face and palms of the hands flashing off and on (on is the GPU, off is the CPU)…

Not much movement in this one, just a bit of swaying back and forth and a couple of blinks…
